One allergy down?

For the past few years, C has had blood tests done to see if his sensitivity to any of his food allergies has subsided. This year, there was an indication that it would be a good time to test him directly on soy.

Yesterday, Katherine took him up to the allergist’s office, where he was given a little soy milk to drink under the observation of the doctor. After several small drinks of the stuff – which, amusingly enough, he disliked – and a few hours’ time, he had not reacted. By bedtime, there was still no reaction. This morning, C had no signs of his usual symptoms. If he’s clear tomorrow, after the 48-hour mark, then he can start trying measures of soy foods on a regular basis.

What an answer to prayer this would be! It’s difficult enough for Katherine to accommodate his allergies here in the U.S., but it will take research and special language study to ensure that we can provide for his diet in Germany. Don’t stop praying!

A new look to our site

Change is good. We hope that you like the layout of the “Amazing Grace” theme that we’ve selected for www.liddles.net. It took some time to create those images that you see in the upper right-hand corner, but the effect is nice. And they rotate through a series of pictures.

Speaking of pictures, you’ll probably see more of them here now that I’ve also set up a feature to display pictures easily. Here’s a sample from our August getaway to Colorado:

There are other types of picture layouts as well. Please let me know what you think!

Newsletter, September 2009

This month’s newsletter is a follow-on to the announcement that I wrote a few weeks ago – with it’s own tweaks and quirks. Little by little, we’re collecting more information about what life and work in Germany will be like. You can be sure that we’ll pass along the interesting parts when they reach a critical mass.

In the meantime, you can peruse the letter – and pass it on to friends and family, if you like. Perhaps you know a believing geek who’s looking to get involved in applying technology to God’s Kingdom.

For the first time, I’ve put our letter in two layouts –  one for reading on your screen, and one for printing. After all, 9 out of 10 dentists recommend serif fonts for printed documents. As always, please make sure that your PDF reader (e.g. Adobe Reader) is up to date – there’s some nasty stuff out on the Internet that can sneak it’s way through unpatched programs to your computer.
